FAITH THAT WORKS - BOOK OF JAMES

The book of James gives us a powerful and practical message about faith and works. James does not teach that we earn salvation by our good works. Rather, he teaches that genuine faith will produce a changed life. James asks a challenging question: “What does it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works?” (James 2:14). His point is simple: faith that never affects the way we live is not the kind of faith God intends for us to have. James gives us the example of seeing a brother or sister who is hungry or lacking clothing and simply telling them, “Go in peace, be warmed and filled,” without doing anything to help. Words alone do not meet a physical need. In the same way, claiming to have faith while refusing to allow that faith to influence our actions reveals a faith that is not functioning as it should. James declares, “Faith without works is dead” (James 2:26). Works do not replace faith—they demonstrate faith. Abraham demonstrated his faith through obedience when God called him to act. Rahab demonstrated her faith by protecting God's messengers. Their actions revealed what they believed. This gives us an important principle for Christian living: Faith believes God, and living faith responds to God. Our works should not be attempts to earn God's love or salvation. Instead, they are the fruit of a relationship with Him. When we truly believe what God has said, our faith begins to affect our decisions, our relationships, our words, our generosity, and the way we serve others. At Kingdom Life University, we want to understand faith not merely as something we profess, but as something we live. The question is not simply, “Do I have faith?” A deeper question is: “What is my faith producing in my life?” A living faith will move us from hearing God's Word to doing God's Word. As James says, “Be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only” (James 1:22). Faith believes. Faith obeys. Faith works.
